Renewable Energy & Electric Vehicle Industry Review

Maharashtra’s installed capacity of renewable energy has increased by 9% in 2022-23 as compared to the previous financial year. This increase has propelled the state to fifth place in the country, with a capacity of 11,400 MW, including 3,352 MW of solar energy. Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka states are ahead of Maharashtra in terms of RE installation. Maharashtra has been actively promoting clean energy to ensure affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.

Maharashtra’s increase in renewable energy capacity is a positive sign towards achieving the country’s target of 175 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2022.

In 2016-17, Maharashtra had only 1,074 domestic rooftop consumers and 20MW of solar power generation capacity. It has grown 80 times in five years and now touched 1800MW capacity.

The state has created a roadmap for projects to generate 5220MW of renewable energy with an investment of Rs 41,000 crore and job creation potential for 6,760 across Maharashtra. This will also help the state achieve its goal of having 50 per cent of its installed power generation capacity sourced from renewable energy.

According to the Maharashtra economic survey, the state has clocked installed renewable energy at 11,400 MW which includes 3,352 MW of solar installations in 2022-23. The capacity stood at 10,502 MW in fiscal 2021-22. This was mere 9846MW in 2020-21. The capacity disclosed are made up of solar, wind, hydro, and waste to energy sources.
